"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

I've seen these hotkeys stop working on devices before.  You should try reinstalling the device drivers; in your case its the "Hotkey Features Integration drivers" which you will either have on your original installation CD or you can download from the Lenovo site.

The hot keys driver that the name of it when i go to the support site?
Hmm, just looked myself and there doesn't seem to be one for your X1; the closest I can find is http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds032187, but that says its for Type 34XX.  I'm not sure if this would work on your machine.  If you can't see the camera in device manager (described below) then you can try installing this driver, if you have not got any CDs that came with your laptop when you bought it.  If you have, everything you need will be on them.

a) Is the camera being detected in Windows device manager?
  -  Press Windows Key + Pause/Break, select Device Manager, double-click the Imaging devices category.
  -  Can you see "Integrated Camera"?  If not, the camera is either not turned on, or faulty.

b) If your laptop has the "command strip" above the numeric keys, can you see a symbol for a camera?  If so, press it to turn on the camera.

If you can see the camera in device manager:

a) When you press Fn+F6 does the "communications centre" not appear?
b) Can you try opening Lenovo Web conferencing, choosing camera settings, then selecting Show my video Image?
Active Protection takes the fight to cryptojacking

While there were several headline-grabbing ransomware attacks during in 2017, another big threat started appearing at the same time that didn’t get the same coverage – illicit cryptomining.

Try removing the Lenovo Camera Software (Uninstall from Control Panel) and see if the camera works. The Lenovo Camera Software does not work properly. I uninstalled it on my ThinkPad X230 and now the camera works just fine. It seems the operating system knows about cameras.
