I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Uninstalling individual roles is not supported on Exchange 2013, even when you try and run this from the command line. If you attempt to perform a uninstall it will remove all of the roles.  See the link below for the release notes regarding this.

Will is correct. To further confirm, check this:

Note: Exchange 2016 CAS Role is also removed. It is now only Mailbox role and Edge role left. Finally, Microsoft did a right move. That will save lot of cost on extra hardware/software.

Does this mean you cannot move roles once they have been installed?

AmitIT ArchitectCommented:
yes, that is correct. You need to remove all roles. Microsoft recommend to keep all roles one server.
