resolving missing domain controllers in Windows domain
Hi,
The saga of the trashed office network continues.
I have a DC running windows server 2003 that needs to be upgraded. In order to do this I need to remove the references to the old secondary domain controllers that have vanished.
I have run DCDIAG and have some issues that I think need to be resolved before installing the new 2012 R2 domain controller.
I would think I need to remove the missing DCs and make the remining one the GC and update the FSMO roles.
What do you think?

I ended up having a couple of additional issues, but worked them out. The info here was a great help.

In the DNS Console you need to expand the _msdcs.domain.com folder and go through all of them and make sure there are no references to domain controllers that are no longer present in your domain. If you do see SRV records that are present in this folder simply delete them.
You also need to open Active Directory Sites and Services and make sure that there are no replicating partners or DC computer objects that are referencing DC's that are no longer in your domain. If there are, then simply delete them.
I would also recommend running the following commands as well to check AD health during this process...
netdom query dc (this will show you all of the DC's that Active Directory is registering in the domain)
Readmin /replsum
Repadmin /showrepl
Repadmin /bridgeheads
As for your 2012 server into the domain you will require that your forest and domian functional level is set to 2003 before you can promote a 2012 DC. Make sure that AD health and replicaiton is correct before raising the functional level of the domain to 2003, if you haven't already.
