Excel file access

Hello Experts,
I want to password protect the excel file by using some script (VB script) .

When user opens the excel file and provide valid password , they can view, edit the document.

If no password provided, they can only view the document and not edit.

Any idea how to write the script.

Thanks

Why use a script? Excel has this functionality built in. See here on how to password protect your workbooks and other Office documents.

probably ease of use for the enduser?  you can use the internal protection with a bit of VBA like this.
the password will show on screen as the user enters it.
Private Sub Workbook_BeforeClose(Cancel As Boolean)

Dim upw, mypw As String
Dim sh As Worksheet
 mypw = "password"
For Each sh In ActiveWorkbook.Worksheets
sh.Protect Password:=mypw
Next sh

End Sub

Private Sub Workbook_Open()
Dim upw, mypw As String
Dim sh As Worksheet
 upw = InputBox("password", "password", "")
 mypw = "password"

 If upw = mypw Then

For Each sh In ActiveWorkbook.Worksheets
sh.Unprotect Password:=mypw
Next sh

 Else

For Each sh In ActiveWorkbook.Worksheets
sh.Protect Password:=mypw
Next sh

 End If
