Exchange EAC question

Hello eXPERTS,

I have a customer who is looking to perform a multi-mailbox search for about 1300 users, so that to export the data to PST.

What is the service impact of exporting bulk of users onto a PST files?

The idea is to use EAC, and perform multiple searches, for batch of users but every user's email should be exported to a PST

How the network, servers, DAG,  internal/external network can be affected?

Recommendations, best practices to export this data?

Exchange environment 2013 CU8, 3 servers per site in one DAG, 2 sites in total, 2 CAS behind a F5 per site, 2 Edge 2013 on DMZ per site

Any gotchas, issues, service impact?

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

When you run the New-MailboxExportRequest cmdlet for Exchange 2013 you need to make sure that you are doing them in reasonable chunks as this does put a load on the Exchange Servers themselves.

Depending on the resources that you have on the mailbox servers will determine how much sequential exports you should run. I would start by doing 5-10 at a time and then monitoring the resources on the Exchange server to see if it is degrading performance.

When you get to a good number based on resources continue to use this number.

Another thing to consider is that while Exporting mailboxes does take up resources on the server and network, during production hours you might want to scale back the amount of mailboxes you are doing at once. Then increase this off business hours.
