At the moment I have 2 X 2008 DC at the moment, both non R2 standard vmware machines. <br />
One of these DC currently holds all 5 roles. <br />

I am planning to burn one of the current DC the one holding all 5 roles actually. <br />
Planning on bringing in two new 2008R2 DC. <br />

I have to put a plan together to remove the current main DC and bring a new DC in place of it and upgrade our forest and domain levels to 2008R2. <br />
The reason I am posting here is in regards to the overall setup and particularly the infrastructure role. <br />
I read that if your AD forest supports forest trusts the infrastructure role should be hosted on a non global catalog domain controller. <br />
We do not currently support any trusts but we will have one established soon for a cross forest migration. <br />
<br />
My plan is to bring on two domain controllers, both standard 2008R2. <br />
make them both domain controllers, one of which will not be a global catalog server. <br />
transfer all roles(barring the infrastructure role) to the new DC that is a GC.<br />
transfer the infrastructure role to the new non global catalog domain controller. <br />
