This behavior is caused by the SMTP service processing an incoming EHLO command if no certificate is assigned to an SMTP site.

Start Exchange Management Shell.
In the box type


No other switches. Press enter. You will get a prompt to replace the default SMTP certificate. Say yes to that.
Then restart the Microsoft Exchange Transport service in services.

Cheers Simon, I have a 3rd Party SSL Cert installed with IMAP, POP, IIS & SMTP assigned to it. This certificate it fine it's just the one called Sites that is showing as expired. Won't running the above knock my 3rd Party Cert out?

No. The command will only add the certificate to the SMTP function, which is what you want.
Sites is an SBS thing, which should be corrected by running the fix my network wizard.
