PPP Error on SLES 11 couldn't get channel number: invalid argument

We are building a Linux (SLES 11) RAS server.  We are able to successfully dial into the server however if we disconnect and then dial in again after the modem is reset, we get the following error:

Couldn't get channel number: Invalid argument

We disconnect and the next time we login, it works fine.  This is a consistent problem across all modems in the RAS card.

We are on SLES 11.3 Kernel 3.0.76-0.11
PPP is the latest version: 2.4.7

We installed the latest version after the default installed ppp 2.4.5 was showing the same issue.

Thanks!

Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.
