KMS vs VAMT Clairfication

I have successfully installed KMS on Server 2012 R2 and VAMT 3.1. I've never used VAMT before, used to the dos KMS commands.

I have added all of my KMS keys into the VAMT. Do I need to install them using slmgr.vbs /ipk as well? I tried but it returned that the software licensing service reported that the product key is invalid.

Also, the directory based activation seems to only deal with Win 8 and above, correct? My domain is still a Win 7 environment, do I need to do anything here?

Basically, just a little confused/lost. Is VAMT simply a GUI to slmgr now? If my KMS licenses are in the VAMT, am I set to go? Will my domain be able to use this new setup?

Thanks!VAMT Screen shot

VAMT is not a front end for slmgr. You still need to activate a KMS server somewhere. As to the error you received when you tried, your question says you are running 2012 R2. But your screenshot shows a VL key for 2012 RTM. 2012 is not the same as 2012 R2, and a 2012 key will not install on 2012 R2.

I registered the key with this description, Windows Srv 2012R2 DataCtr/Std KMS so I believe that is correct

You can always use slmgr to verify that a KMS key is installed and if other OSes are activating against it.

So, back to the original question. I seem to have a server 2012 R2 key installed along with my office 2013 key.
How do I get other keys in, like Win 7, Office 2010?
Cliff GaliherCommented:
You don't. KMS activates by group. Generally speaking, a group key activates that group and downlevel groups. So a server hey activates client as well. But a client KMS key would not activate servers.
