Need help tracking email in exchange 2013

We are having issues with sending emails from a all in one printer specifically scan to email. We have made some changes to our MX record, smart host and spam filter since making those one of our Dept's cant scan to email to themselves there email server is outside our network, we do have a internal exchange server that the printer bounces emails off. I can scan to email to any other domain except there's. I dont get an error on the printer the email doesn't end up in there spam or junk folders it just seems to disappear. I would like to see what happens to in when it bounces off our exchange server but I cant seem to find the data Im looking for.

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

So your saying the printer is remotely setup to scan to email?

It is probably pointing at the wrong location since you made the changes if thats the case.

its probably pointing to the old ip mx record.

Also do we have a spam filter for this email system of yours, hopefully its an outsourced on the internet system.

Check if the mail is hitting your spam filter, that then confirms the issue are the incorrect settings on the print device.

The printer is pointing to our internal exchange. From the same printer I can scan to email to any internal account on our exchange server, I can also scan to email to all other external accounts such as my personal gmail account. I can send a regular email from our internal exchange to the domain in question. I have searched the spam filter (its also our MX and smarthost) and I dont see any trace of the email.

Do you have any relay connector?

ok, so its a lan based printer, you cannot see the mail going out of your site through the filter?

Then it is not getting there, have you tried using the same credentials the printer is using to email and testing it this way? replicating what the printer does precisely?

Also I think you have but please confirm other printers can relay through this exchange and relay is enabled and open on exchange.

I can also send a regular email from my internal exchange using outlook to the domain Im having scan to email issues with. It doesn't make sense which is why I would like to see more detailed info on how our exchange server is handling the scan to email job to the external domain Im having issues with.

I got it figured out. On the two printers in question I had the senders address setup with the external domain after the changes it did not like that so I changed it to our internal domain for the senders address and its working.
