AD account needed for "Shared Mailbox"

I converted a User Mailbox to  a Shared Mailbox so it can continue to receive e-mail and other users can be granted full access to it.
If I delete the AD account tied to the Shared Mailbox, will the mailbox remain active? Or does a "Shared Mailbox" still have to have an AD user account tied to it for it to exist?

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

You still need the AD account. You cannot have a mailbox without an account.
However as part of the conversion, the account should have been marked as disabled.

Ok yeah I have it disabled. So if I move the User Account for the Shared Mailbox to a target OU, will that move the mailbox to the same OU?

Mailboxes don't live in an OU.
When you are looking at the account list, and see an OU listed, that is where the AD account is.
Mailboxes live in a database - where the AD account is Exchange doesn't really care.
