powershell find number of mailboxes per server

I am trying to find a way to to find the total number of mailboxes by group of mailbox servers. For example anything that begins with America add this up and supply a total number of mailboxes. Anyone have any idea on the best way to do this. This is what I have so far but its rerunning each time.

$america = (get-mailbox -resultsize:unlimited | ?{$_.servername -match "[^ameri*]"}).count
$mars = (get-mailbox -resultsize:unlimited | ?{$_.servername -match "[^mars*"}).count
$Railroad = (get-mailbox -resultsize:unlimited | ?{$_.servername -match "[^RAIL*"}).count

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Try this...
$ServerQuery = "Americ*"
Get-mailbox -ResultSize "unlimited" | ? { $_.ServerName -like "$ServerQuery" } | measure

Something like this?
[hashtable]$ht=@{}
$ht.add("europe*",1)
$ht.add("america*",1)

foreach($item in $ht.GetEnumerator() | sort Key){
    $item.Name
}
