It depends upon your bios and you set that up in your bios setup options.. usually by pressing "DEL" or "F2" on startup
Yes, by pressing F2 or the del key usually you will be taken to the bios.  Within there you can setup a password that will prompt every time you turn on the PC.

The BIOS password can be set (as per above) and I do that on my laptop. But it has nothing to do with Windows 8. The BIOS password does not start (log into) Windows 8.

Thank your for your fast reply. I want BIOS password required when logging in Window8. It looks like it cannot work.
David Johnson, CD, MVPOwnerCommented:
Do you understand what a BIOS password is?  It is a password that executes in the bios before the system is initialized. Way before the 1st boot device loads the MBR and starts the boot process.  When enabled nothing will boot until the bios password is entered.
and after completing the bios, as explained above by David, only then starts Windows - and you get the need for windows password login
you can use the same password if you like, or set it to no password

I want BIOS password required when logging in Window8  <-- The BIOS password is entirely independent of the operating system (any operating system) so what you want is not possible.

In Windows7, setup bios. if clicking "hibernate", and then start PC, the PC will require bios password. The benefit of hibernate is to keep your active work on your desk. However, in Windows8, there is not hibernate button, That means windows 8 does not have this function ?
David Johnson, CD, MVPOwnerCommented:
Hibernate is available just hidden.
type windows key - X command prompt as administrator
press OK if the UAC comes up
in the command window type
powercfg -hibernate on
powercfg -h on

you will now see the hibernate option in your power options menu

Thank you for your reply. I already had hibernate in the PC. But when the PC wake up from hibernate, it does not require bios password in windowns8, however, it does require bios password in my another PC windows 7.
