I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

This just isnt the case for the sites that you are interested in but applies to all. Windows based PC's  are more prone to being infected, as the vast majority of malware / virii are written to infect that platform. Although iOS can be infected the likleyhood of this is far less and will also apply the smart TV.

Correct, it is only a question of probability. A smart TV is usually less well protected, but also less often targeted for attacks. The more common smart TVs are more likely to get attacked, even if you do not actively use the Internet - there are stories about the automated firmware update feature having been used for hacking already.

You can watch anything on whatever device you like. The content of what you are watching won't harm your device at all. But of course if you visit sites that are infected by malware or viruses it is possible that this can get to your device. But again, that has absolutely nothing to do with the porn or documentaries or whatever content you are watching.

WOW !! The question is specific to Red tube .com a very popular porno website. many time when I fix a client computer that are highly infected and I find in the history that they go to Redtube.com I tell them that that website is a great entry point for infection so I recommend to stay away form it. some of them came back to me asking if they use the browser from their smart TV to access red tube .com. and the question was we need to know because it will be pretty expensive to take down a 65 inces TV and take it to you to be cleaned if it still can get infected.

next question is do a Smart TV has an hard drive inside ? do they use a Solid state drive to store the link ? in case a smart TV get infected how can I clean it ? as you can see I have no clues and probably I better start learning a lot because I have a feeling that many people are doing the same thinking now, thinking that their smart TV wont be infected as their PC .

Thank you for the overview everyone...

I wouldnt worry about the smart TV's as much. Although they can be  targetted in theory, the likeleyhood of infection is far less. You can always add protection to iOS devices

And even if the likelyhood of infection would be much higher - there is nothing you (or we) could do about if having an infected smart TV. If anything, only the manufacturer can provide advice - and probably nothing more than to perform a full reset to factory defaults.

Correct, the only time I would deem it as a viable threat is when the anti virus companies develop a product that could combat the threat

:) well I didn't know that even there was a minimum risk that a tv could be affected. I will recommend to not watch porn on a smart TV so simple. :) I don't want that by any chance something happen and they ask me to assist with a TV reset. :)

Thank you for sharing your knowledge

Tell him to only watch from sites that are safe. There is no reason to tell him not to watch porn (except of course if he is underaged or the source is illegal anyway).
