how to upgrade osx 10.5.8 to yosemite

I am running an imac with osx 10.5.8 and experiencing a lot of problems with safari, adobe flash updates, and compatible versions of programs like CCleaner and Avast antivirus.  What do I have to do in order to upgrade the osx operating system to a newer version of the osx?  Also, the computer has 1 GB of RAM and it is an intel core 2 duo at 2.40 GHz.
thanks,

Hi

1 GB ram would not be enough and you need to first upgrade to Snow Leopard, OS 10.6.0 and then to OS 10.6.8 and then to yousemite.
