Cannot change Google Account password on Android 5.1 phone

Hi Experts,

I have an LG G4 phone running Android 5.1.

For various reasons I have had to change the password of my Google account (I'm using 2 factor authentication).

My problem now is that I cannot see how to see how to change the Google account password on the phone.

I can navigate to Settings | Accounts & Sync | Google.
That shows my current gmail address folllowed by a section heading DATA & SYNC.
But I can't see any way of updating my password.

Regards,
Leigh

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Off the top of my head, try opening the Gmail app on your phone and click on the menu button.  Does it give you an entry for settings?  It may be under that.

Another user has said to try turning the autosync off and then on again.  That may prompt you to update the password.

You can also try the following advice from Verizon Wireless as it could work on your Android as well:

If that doesn't work, you may try deleting the account from your phone altogether, and creating a new one with the new password.

Hey first you need to off your 2 step authentication process

In “Signing in & security” section of My Account, select 2-Step Verification. Sign in with your username, password, and verification code if asked.
Select Turn off 2-Step Verification.
A pop-up window will appear to confirm that you want to turn off 2-Step Verification. Select Ok.

Now you can proceed to change your account password
You can change your Google Account password at any time.

Sign in to My Account.

In the "Sign-in & security" section, select Signing in to Google.

Choose Password.

Enter your new password information, then select Change Password.

Some time after I posted my question I got a Play Store notification.
When I opened Play Store it asked me to re-authenticate.
All going OK now.
