EE expert view

hello,

with the new software, my expert view look is gone, and all space is taken up with useless things
how can i have it back ?

also, if i post a question, i get no list any more of all topics, but it presents me with what it finds useful
may i say i detest this software behavior?  i like having a list to choose from ALL items available

that's how it came in the miscellanous topic - move it if needed

thanks

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

When you click on answer a question or contribute tab you have search option so just type your topic Miscellaneous or any other Windows OS, Windows 7 or Linux which topic you want to use.

I find it also inconvenient.
One thing good that I noticed is the fact that you can add more than 3 topics where the questions will be asked. How many? No idea, but I have tried 4.
I do not think you can have it back. We have to adapt ourselves.

No there is a no way to go back  EE completely change for new look. Everyone will use this don't worry after few days we all are familiar with new look of EE

This new look is a complete waste of available space on your display. About 60% is used by navigation, sidebars, big buttons in each comment, way too large contributors part below the last comment. The new look is not usable for experts anymore, if I were responsible for this release, I'd consider rolling it back. Just my 2c.

How can you search for a topic area when you don't know what it might be called, or if it even exists?
When given a list to choose from you know what it is, and if the topics are supplied carefully in a tree structure you will most likely be able to choose exactly the right area.

Just for my curiosity: how many times has been changed the interface for EE during the last years?
I like the first one very simple before 2010. I would like the old one back.

nobusAuthor Commented:
the newer ones are only for accomodating to smartphones, imo.
it looks more like a gadget or toy, instead of en "expert" site - which this claims to be...
useful for kids and swapping around 10 answers in 5 minutes (which i also don't like - for the reason  that such speed often gives birth to wrong answers..

just my personal opinion

If up to now the reward shirt was mostly black with some other color text on it, perhaps from now will be also white for those who have more “Likes”.
I just helped you to start to get one :)

Would be interesting to find out what will be more important: to answer more questions and have more points or to get more “Likes” and become a kind of “Miss Experts-Exchange”

.................ditto.......fancy does not mean ease of use. I have to go to advanced search just to find my own questions, etc. or look on the list of activity on the right, if I can find it, but there it shows all my activity and does not separate my open from my participated.

i guess it's impractical, but could there not be 2 separate interfaces?
one for smartphones, and one for PC screens

Now that we start to complain about it, here is one more thing: if I want to answer a question in a specific Topic, let’s say for the purpose to get next shirt, then I find extremely complicated the path to “Approaching Certification” where I can see the Topic which requires minimum points from my side to get the shirt.
The way how I know it now is: My Account (right-top corner) – Rewards – Expert Rewards – Redeem a shirt – Approaching Certification. Then on Sort – Points to Qualify.
For example I need only 3000 more points for “MultiMedia Applications” Topic.
Now, how can I find the Topic for “MultiMedia Applications”  to see the open questions?
I used main top search of EE for “MultiMedia Applications”. Then on the left side under Refine Search I see “MultiMedia Applications”, then I choose Only Show – Questions and finally I am where I wanted.

Is not this scratching the left side of the head with right hand?
Do you know other shortcuts with the new interface?

Yes, but first time you dig as in a mine to reach that place.
I found a short-cut:
- Go to nobus  - Experts Exchange Cerifications – and down below is Multimedia Applications (CTRL+F from browser) :)

You edit the search, select your MM Topic and then save that search, it will show under your toolbox (saved searches).

The site is undergoing a metamorphosis right now.  The look and feel is somewhat of a by-product of that.

One of the LONG standing problems EE has faced is the topic areas.   Most askers don't know where to put a question, you were limited to three, etc.

Then there is the number of.  First it was too few, then too many, and each time we did a TA reorg, it was a major mess.

Stick with it a while longer....use the new search, which you will find is your friend.   You should also find the site suggesting things that interest you more accurately as we move forward.

There is lots in the works, but it's taking some major effort (and time) to get there and it can't be done all at once.

Jim.

There is.  EE has a mobile app separate from the main site. It's not complete by far, but it's there and functional for the most part.

another way is:

and simply type "multi" in the search:

My point was that I didn't know the word multi applied to what I was looking for.
Say I was new to excel, they've told me i can link it to access and have it display the monthly sales figures that I've been tasked to create.
What magic word do I search to find my topic, monthly? Access with excell?

also - while i'm at it, why all the rubbisch under the last post?
when i scroll up to reread the initial post, i can't even find the latest again....

GET rid of the rubbish, EE people, and concentrate as they say on "your core task"

You would not start typing multi in trying to find multimedia"?

Any of those would be a good start obviously.  Have you actually tried the topic browser yet?  It's really not all that hard to find anything.

Topic browser
Is that the link from the rhs of that bouncy blue bar above? The one that now only covers up what I'm typing if I don't slide it out of the way first or if I accidentally scroll down?
It didn't used to scroll sideways  there is a pic of a house on its left that does what the X logo should and the right hand side says Netw
I try to avoid that bar.

We appreciate the feedback. As Jim said, we are very busy listening to our users and developing product to better enable their experiences. The largest issue with the new question page was the lost "real estate" when reducing browser size. This morning, we released a patch to always allow for 700 px on the main column. As the browser shrinks, the site will respond and place the third column (right rail) at the bottom of the page. The new design seems to appeal to more people and we are seeing stronger engagement into the More Resources section. So far, we feel the new page is stronger...but time will tell.

With regards to Topics, we have flattened the Topic hierarchy. We now auto-suggest Topics (Tags) based on content of a post. You may also search for a Topic in the content wizards. All content types (questions, articles, videos) can contain five Topics. If you don't see a Topic you would like, we now have the ability to add a Topic. This process is still being fleshed-out, but we will work with the community to add Topics that are missing or needed.

Going forward, the Site Support group is the best forum for feedback. We do want to hear your thoughts - good or bad. Our goal is to continuously improve the site to make it great for everyone.

i find the latest years "enhancements " are hindering more than help - unless you use a smartphone -  and that's what is happening

also - now the accepted answer are listed below the thread and clutter the already cluttered page further
instead of reposting -  display them in another color (green or gold?)

I'm guessing you don't use a smartphone to access the site. I do and there are a lot of recent happenings that make it harder to find my way around or to post anything using the phone.
The big blue bouncy bar obscuring about a third of my entry being my current biggest annoyance.
