Dynamics CRM 2011 - how to create form with auto-filled fields

I am new to Dynamics CRM, and I would like to create a form where some of the fields in that form are automatically filled based on the User who is completing the form.

The form will be used for New opportunities.

I understand how to create forms, but need advice (or ideally an example) on how to implement the "auto-fill" / "auto-complete" feature.

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

In this case you will have to write JavaScript functions that fires on the form load event and loads the values to the fields.

The JS must be compliant to the CRM SDK and any use of JS which accesses DOM is unsupported.
