SQL maintenance plan - Copy only backup

Hello Experts,

Is it possible to create a ‘copy only backup’ using SQL Maintenance plan? We want this to run daily, at the same time not effecting our regular scheduled backups. We are using SQL 2005.

Thanks

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

SQL server 2005 does not support COPY only backup. Possible in SQL server 2008 and later version.

SQL Server 2005 does support copy only backups but SQL Server Management Studios (SSMS) does not. So you can't perform it using GUI.
What you can do is to create a job called "Copy Only Backup" and add a step that runs the following command:
BACKUP DATABASE database_name TO DISK = 'C:\Backups" WITH COPY_ONLY
