Need to connect a nim server to internet for patches downloads.

Hi,

We have setup a NIM server on AIX 6.1 with S.U.M.A to download TLs and SPs for our AIX boxes, but network team wants to know which IPs address, ports and protocols will the nim connect to IBM?

I'm not sure if these IPs and ports are the same the HMC uses.

Thanks.

IBM servers do not have static IPs. They use DNS.
Commonly it uses HTTP and HTTPS, though your IP=address team could measure that first.

@gueist, OK, but which are these names from IBM servers?

Well, after search and searh here are the names and ports of IBM servers to serve NM-SUMA:

170.225.15.44     www7b.software.ibm.com       port 443
170.225.15.42     www14.software.ibm.com       port 443
207.25.252.197   eccgw01.boulder.ibm.com       port 443
129.42.160.51     eccgw02.rochester.ibm.com    port 443

If I close the question, the answer is deleted too. How can I maintain this answer without get points?

Thanks.

Accept your answer ;) It will go through 3day wait like cancel, but will keep it after.
If it helps - SUMA can use HTTP proxy and no need to open the ports.

I dont know if it's the correct way to do it.. but I'll ask EE admins.

And yes, I know SUMA can access directly but network team wants to filter anyway.
Thanks Gheist.
