A client has a Dell Poweredge 2900 Server with dual e5420 2.5 GHz quadcore Xeons, 8GB RAM, running on Windows Server 2003 (32bit)<br />
There are currently a max of five users connected to it to access the Sage applications (500 &amp;&nbsp;1000) that are installed on it (uses MS-SQL Server).<br />
I would like to allow more users to access this server (&lt;=10)<br />
I have suggested that we upgrade to Windows 2008 R2, and add more disk<br />
<br />
The foundation licence seems like a good option<br />
The upside is that it is cheap, it will recognize the full 8GB RAM,and &nbsp;I don't need to buy CALs<br />
Downside is that the second processor won't be utilized<br />
<br />
My question is the following: <br />

My supplier, Techdata, doesn't offer DELL OEM versions of Windows Server 2008 R2 Foundation, but it does have HP versions<br />
<br />
Can I install an HP OEM version of this OS on a DELL server ?<br />
I heard that these OEM versions detect the server's BIOS now and won't install on a different manufacturer's hardware<br />

HP Windows Server 2008 R2 OEM on a DELL Poweredge ?

Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2008 R2, based on the Microsoft Vista codebase, is the last 32-bit server operating system released by Microsoft. It has a number of versions, including including Foundation, Standard, Enterprise, Datacenter, Web, HPC Server, Itanium and Storage; new features included server core installation and Hyper-V.
