VMWARE ESXI 6.0 vSAN

Can vSAN be configured using existing datastores on two hosts or is it required to start with freshly installed or empty drives?   Obviously sure don't want to accidentally blow away any of my existing vm guests.

Note: have not created a two node cluster yet.  Understand that is the first step but did not want to go too far before asking.  Also this is a home lab.

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

The minimum requirements are

3 hosts
1 x SSD and 1 x HDD per host.

(now you can use all SSDs as of vSAN 6.0).

So you will need more hosts, and you need to start with new storage which meets the requirements.

see my Lab setup article here...which shows you how to do this using VMware Workstation, it's certainly worth a try, if you want to experiment with vSAN.

Already knew about the 3 node requirement with 1 SSD per node but just wasn't clear about having to start with empty storage.  Well dang, I am already to far into this to start over.   But thanks for your how to link.
