Setup VPN and Remote Access on Windows Server 2008

Hi Experts,

I want to configure VPN on Windows Server 2008 to allow my eight users to connect to the office network simultaneously and remote into their workstations. Is there a step by step guide to perform this task? Also, can multiple users connect at the same time?

Thanks

Thank you John. Apart from getting a hardware, is there any way to do it within windows server itself? My client has a limited budget and might not be ready to spend on a new hardware.
With no budget, you need someone here who will tell you how to set up PPTP VPN and use PPTP VPN on clients. This is not particularly secure VPN and gets in the way of using Internet at the Client end, but otherwise it works.

Check if your router already does PPTP VPN.
As John explained, numerous hardware vpn box'es ( all functions in one box) in market with low cost and you can get in ebay with warranty

Example : Fortigte, sonicwall TZ series,Cisco 800 series and few other

Still, if you would like to configure PPTP on windows 2008, here is the step by step configuration example

How many simultaneous connections are possible through PPTP VPN?
How many simultaneous connections are possible through PPTP VPN?

On windows server or hardware VPN boxes ?

The hardware VPN boxes are much more enough for small medium business companies

On windows server? Its a 8 user network.
I don't see the number of connections supported in windows server as  like hardware VPN box'es

But, i am sure the server can support more than 10 vpn users

Tried to verify in microsoft tech page, but not able to verify. You can start proceed to configure windows 2008 server as PPTP server

Yes, RRAS (MS VPN) is able to support up to 255 PPTP connections - by number, at least. 10 users should not be an issue.
If they just want to remote into their desktops, you can set up Remote Desktop Web Access:

Thank you John. I was somehow able to make my client understand the importance of going through the appliance.
@nishantdewan86 - Thanks for the update and I am glad you could convince your client. Everyone will be happy.
