PHP, how to call a stored procedure with an OUT variable

If I had a stored procedure like this:

CREATE PROCEDURE getCustomer(cid int, OUT name varchar(255))
	SELECT firstname INTO name
    FROM customers
	WHERE custid = cid;
END //

Open in new window

How do I get that value of that OUT variable?

My current incorrect code is:

$value = 7;
    $sql = "call getCustomer(?);";
    $stmt = $db->prepare($sql);
    $stmt->bindValue(1, $value, PDO::PARAM_INT);
    $row = $stmt->fetch(PDO::FETCH_ASSOC);

Open in new window

The var_dump just shows "boolean false".

On your previous question I provided you with a reference link that covers OUT parameters.  If only you had read it!

Here it is again.  Look for "Calling stored procedures with an OUT parameter"
