"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

I use Sync Back Pro for this ( I sync 50 GB of documents and files from laptop (Windows 8.1 Pro) to desktop (Windows 7 Pro). Works great and is very robust. Does not change dates.

You will need to ensure you can map from your laptop to desktop. This is necessary for any syncing operation. See my article on folder sharing.

For a low volume of documents, Drop Box works very well. But I prefer Sync Back for big volumes.
