Running SQL Express and VCenter Server 6 on Same Server

If MS SQL Express and VMware VCenter Server 6 are to be run on the same Windows 2008 R2 server, and MS SQL Express will be used for other applications and purposes other than VCenter, what must be done to get the two to co-exist and what is the best order to install them ? Does the SQL Express included with VCenter only support VCenter  ?  Or can it be used with other apps ?

Apparently a site had a working VCenter Server 6 and then installed MS SQL Express for a separate application (as the MS SQL Server Express Management Console and other tools were needed), and the installation wiped-out the VCenter Server SQL DB.  TIA for any help getting these two apps to coexist.

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

There's no reason for they won't together and to not accept other apps databases.
But you should know that there are limits in SQL Server Express Edition. Here are the more important ones:
- 1GB RAM
- 10GB for database size
- no SQL Server Agent

I would NOT use your SQL Express server for anything other than vCenter Server.

Leave you vCenter Server, and SQL Express just for vCenter Server, both are a memory and processor hog.

How many VMs and Hosts will you have ?

Okay, thanks all.  This MS SQL Express svr and VCenter svr are really just test machines that will be minimally used for production purposes.  So the performance and restrictions/limitations may not be as much of of a concern ...
