64GB RAM installed, showing 32GB of usable RAM

I recently installed 64GB RAM on a 64 bit Server 2008 R2 Standard server however it is showing that only 32GB of it is usable. Also, in relation to the server, the RAM keeps filling up and only reduces after a reboot. The server is used for Sybase/SQL.

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

It's possible the hardware can't support more than 32 gigs of RAM.  What is the server make/model?

Also depending on the server, you have to put the RAM in certain slots and/or a certain order.

Is the maximum memory limit for Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard Edition. You'll need to upgrade to Datacenter or Enterprise Edition to use all 64GB of RAM.

Victor is correct.  Server 2008 R2 Standard is limited to addressing only 32GB of ram.Capture.JPGSource

As for the memory filling up and only clearing after a reboot, normally this would indicate a memory leak.  I do remember a memory leak in Sybase, but I thought the developers for Sybase had taken care of this.  What version are you using?

Thank you all for the comments regarding 64GB RAM not being compatible with 64 bit Server 2008 R2 Standard Edition. To get the full use of installed memory and upgrade of the OS will be needed.
