Linking Group Policy

I created a security group under a generic OU to deploy windows updates using a GPO.  I don't wish to link the GPO to the generic OU.  Can I link the GPO to a security group or is the GPO link only capable of linking to an OU?

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

No. You cannot LINK a GPO to a security group. However what you can do is link the GPO to a top level OU and then set the security filtering on the GPO to point to a specific security group. This way if the GPO is applied to an OU only people that are part of the security group and are in the OU where you linked the policy will receive the policies.

This is is the appropriate way to accomplish what you are trying to do.
