Server 2012 workstation freezing

I have a site with a Dell Power Edge Server running Server 2012 and Trend Worry Free. We are currently getting network freeze outs on the workstations randomly. Nothing is showing in the event viewer and all workstations are a mix of Win 7 and 8. All files being accessed are office documents using Office 2013. Any ideas what could be causing this?

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Could be anything from disk latency to net work issues.

While the issue is reproducing collect performance data for about an hour.

Then run that collected data through PAL.

If that doesn't turn anything up, collect concurrent (one from each side) NetMon/WireShark traces and see if you can tell where or why the packets are not getting through as expected.

Are there any backup jobs running at the time?  Also try disabling your AV to see if that helps the situation.

For trend micro worry free do you have smart-scan enabled?  This scans like every file being passed around and has known to lock up systems.  You can check if it is enabled by logging into the WFBS console and  going to the following:

Preferences > Global Settings > Desktop/Server Tab > General Scan Settings

Check Disabled Smart Scan Service (if you want it disabled) > Then Save
