Multiple Installs of SQL Server on a Single Server

Looking for some help with this. A client of mine is running a LoB application that relies on SQL Server. We have installed SQL 2014 Standard and all is running well. They are using 2 databases from the installation.

On the same server, they will be sharing a number of MYOB versions (they are an accounting office). Some of the MYOB versions require the installation of SQL Compact Edition.

Is it possible to have these both running on the same server?

If so, will I be required to change anything when installing the MYOB applications or configure anything on the existing server?

The tern "both running" does not really apply.

SQL Compact Edition is not a stand-alone Windows service as SQL Server is. It is run embedded in your application.

So they can "coexist". I also don't know where a installation of both lead to problems (just verify your backups are actual and valid :).

btw, what does LoB and MYOB stand for? Never read this acronyms..

ste5an - Just running the backups now...

LoB - Line of Business.... and MYOB is a software product.

Interesting. In database terminology LOB is Large Object. Since this is a database topic it may mislead us.

Thanks Victor. I will keep it in mind next time :-)

Are you able to confirm if SQL CE and SQL 2014 can reside on a single server? I would be installed CE after 2014 Standard so will this cause an impact to the existing SQL server?
Vitor MontalvãoMSSQL Senior EngineerCommented:
Yes, they can reside in the same server. I just don't know why it would install the SQL CE if you have a SQL Server 2014 instance but I don't know nothing about MYOB application. It will be nice if you could investigate if you can get rid of the SQL CE for MYOB.

That's right Vitor. I don't understand it either as Standard would provide what CE does but MYOB is a product with an interesting reputation in this space.
