We are currently configuring two Server 2008R2 servers as WSUS servers for our program. The upstream server with internet access will sync with Microsoft Update, and the downstream server will be on our closed LAN and provide the necessary patches and updates to our Server 2008R2 servers and Windows 7 workstations. The WSUS data will be exported from the upstream server and air-gapped and imported to the downstream server.
We are at the point in the configuration where we need to choose how the "Update Source / Proxy Server" on the downstream server. Since this server will be on the closed network, we will not be able to sync with Microsoft Update OR the upstream server. In addition, there is the option to configure the downstream server as a "replica", another choice that may affect the inter-functionality of the two systems.
Can you provide us with the correct choices in order to complete the configuration, or does it matter?
