Currently users are unable to see the data types of columns which they have data reader rights to for a particular database. This database is replicated (if this has anything to do with it) and multiple users are experiencing the same issues. I have sysadmin and see it without any issues. We are using SQL server 2012 Enterprise.

It seems this is permission issue. Do users have VIEW DEFINITION permission on all the user data types?

More info and appropriate examples are here and here.

You may also set it in SSMS: Go to the server Sercurity - Logins, double click the login name, the Login properties dialog appears, click on the Securables and then click the Search... button.
