Windows Server Migration to New Drives With Raid 1

I'm trying to upgrade my Raid 1 configuration Windows 2008 to a larger hard drive because I'm running out of room. It is a custom built server with what is listed as an AMD AHCI Compatible Raid Controller and AMD Raid Console. I inherited this system from the previous administrator. I can't seem to find a way to migrate them. I want to either:

1) Use software to migrate both drives in continued RAID 1 configuration to the new bigger drive
2) Remove the RAID configuration and migrate a single drive to a new drive using something like Clonezilla (The RAID configuration isn't necessarily required)

On Intel's page I found descriptive instructions and software on how to remove the RAID configuration. However, I can't seem to find anything for AMD. There appears to be something called AMD RaidXpert but It doesn't support Windows Server 2008 nor can I find a place to download it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Attached are screenshots of the device manager and server manager.

What you are using looks like a fakeRAID controller anyway, so you have every reason not to use that stuff in RAID mode. Windows built-in RAID is far more reliable and performs better. The other thing in your screenshot looks like one of your disks of the array isn't working anyway.

Just go ahead and clone your working disk to the new, larger disk with CloneZilla. Then remove the old disks and resize and move the partitions the way you need them using something like GParted. Boot into windows and check whether everything is working fine. After that convert the basic disk to dynamic, add the 2nd disk, and create your RAID 1 array within Windows diskmanagement.

One thing though, don't use disks larger than 2 TB.

So I checked what size drive I got and it's 3 TB. Can I still use them? Should I just stick to single drive and skip RAID all together?
The size of the disk has nothing to do with RAID or not. If you use that disk you will only be able to use 2TB of it, wasting 1TB.

MBR disks are limited to 2TB size. If you want to use more than 2TB you'd have to make it a GPT disk. The problem with GPT disks is that you need a modern UEFI BIOS to be able to boot to the OS on that disk. The OS would also have needed to be installed differently then as you have a different partition structure than with MBR disk, which would mean that you can't clone or image a non GPT installation to a GPT disk, that wouldn't work. You would rather have to do a fresh installation.

So if you want to boot from that disk, and your mainboard is an UEFI board, you would have to install the OS.

GPT disks are supported by Windows as data disks when you don't boot from them. So your best option would be to add the 2 new 3TB disks to your current installation, make them GPT and dynamic within diskmanagement, create a partition, assign a drive letter and mirror them, then move your data from your current disk to the new array. Also convert your current disks to dynamic and create your array for the OS, as at the moment there is no RAID in your system.

You should always use RAID on servers as it protects you from disk failures, but still don't forget to do regular backups.

Thank you. I think what I want to do is use the disks as a 2 TB MBR, realizing I'll lose 1 TB. This really shouldn't be a big deal because within the next year or two we'll be getting a new system and I'd have to redo everything anyway. Will what you suggested work for me as long as I realize I'll lose the 1 TB? Or will it not even recognize the 3 TB drive?
Yes it will work. You just will see the extra unallocated space within diskmanagement, you can't allocate it.
