Moving Windows to another Drive

Kiddo has Win 2007 on a Dell desktop and Windows resides on a 30GB C drive. WINSXS has balooned to the point where the drive is full and I can't even get SP1 on there because not enough space. So no way to shrink it. There's also a separate 250GB drive in there that just has data and apps. If I don't care about preserving data on D: drive or C: drive - is there a way I could migrate Windows to the D drive short of doing a fresh installation from CD/USB? Thanks.

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Yes you can.  You can use software such as Acronis True Image or Norton Ghost or try free imaging/restore tools to make an image of the O.S then restore to another drive.  Simply make an image of the orignal drive then restore to it.  Some will allow you to copy from disk to disk.  I've heard the free Paragon and their free software is worth looking into.   Click here for the video.

1. Make an image of the system disk
2. Restore to the D drive
3. Delete the partition or content of the C drive so that the machine will boot from the D drive
