Multiuser Access Database with Sharepoint

If I build an Access Database that requires monthly input from 5 or 6 users, each in a different office, does it matter how they manage their data by:
(1) push the tables from Access to Sharepoint lists for them to manage or
(2) let them edit their own Excel spreadsheets in Sharepoint and pull the data into Access?

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

I would go with #1

The fewer apps you have involved, the less potential problems you may have.
I wouldn't use SharePoint tables as my main data store unless you held a gun to my head.  However, for communication with external users, they can be useful so I too would go with option #1 but only for the tables where I am collecting data.

Always nice to hear from you both. Our SharePoint application frequently flakes-out and becomes unavailable, although I don't know if its the platform or how its managed but I share your enthusiasm for not using it unless you have no other option.
