SBS2011 mobile devices can't connect when on LAN

When mobile device users (cell phone and tablets) come to the office, their devices can't connect to email server. We are using  Exchange on SBS2011 and the device connect either through remote.(domainname).com or mail.(domainname).com. I suspect it may be a DNS issue, but was hesitant to make DNS entries in the SBS2011 for remote.(domainname).com or mail.(domainname).com to point to itself unless I'm reasonably sure it won't break anything and would solve the problem. Thank you for your consideration.

Hello,

I believe this is a DNS issue. I've experience the same problem in my network. I simply created a host A record that pointed to the private IP address of the email server (remember private IP address, not public IP address)  in the forward lookup zone of my domain.

Lets assume your domain xyz.com and your email server is mail.xyz.com. Your email server private IP address is 10.0.0.150. In this scenario you will browse to the forward lookup zone of your DNS server, browse to xyz.com, create a HOST A record for mail and point it to 10.0.0.150.

There is no harm in trying this. Create the DNS record, give it a few hours for the name to propagate and then try connecting to it from a device that is setup with remote.(domainname).com. If it doesn't work you can always delete the HOST A record.
