XML site map that automatically updates
Hi everyone,
I used one of those free xml site map generators freely available on the internet to generate a site map of my website. I then uploaded this to my web server and submitted the site map on Google Webmaster Tools. The problem with this is that I will need to keep re-generating, uploading and re-submitting the site map every time the site changes.
I wondered if anyone could tell me if there is a way to have the site map update automatically when the site changes so that it's less time-consuming and more efficient? The site is built on the Magento platform so uses PHP as the base language.
Would really appreciate any advice.

Hi, I've taken a look at the suggested link and it looks like something that could work. As mentioned in my original post, I've already submitted a site map to Google so once I get Magento to create the new map and have it update automatically, will I need to re-submit the map or if I call it the same file name as my current site map, i.e. sitemap.xml, will Google know that it's changed and just re-crawl it as it updates?

When you say that I can probably just update the file on the site, do you mean that I can just let Magento automatically update it using the cron script? So I would never have to do it manually as it's being handled by Magento?
Google reloads my 'sitemap.xml' periodically so you probably can just update the file on your site

I don't know about Magento. If it updates the 'sitemap.xml' file periodically, that should work. Note that Google checks your sitemap file on it's own schedule.
