How to switch user account at logon screen on a Mac, without being able to logon to change settings?

Hello,

I know how to enable the setting to switch user account at logon screen.  But I do not have access to the system, so I cannot do this.  I do posses a local administrator account that can give me access but...

Anyway, is there a function key combo or something that allows you to select and alternate user from the logon screen its self, seems to me like this would be an awesomely practical idea.

Thanks.

I don't understand what you mean when you say you have a local administrator account, but don't have access to the system.

Why can't you just go into the Users and Groups prefs panels and under Log in Options set it to Display Login Window as List of Users?

How to create a spare admin account:

Start your computer while holding down Command + S

Onces the boot up stops you will see a command prompt:

:/ root#

copy and paste the following into the command prompt:

/sbin/mount -uw /

Hit enter.

Now the startup drive will be mounted and files and folders can be accessed from the command prompt.

In order to restart the computer in a special mode, you will need to remove the file that tells the OS whether the one-time setup process has already been done. To remove that file, copy and paste this at the promt:

rm /var/db/.applesetupdone

Hit enter.

Next time you will restart your mac, you will be guided through the process of creating the admin account
