I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Allow or block file types in OWA

An administrator wanted to know if he could prevent users from opening certain file types using OWA (Exchange 2010).

Sure, Exchange 2010 uses a Web app mailbox policy to control what files type are allowed or blocked and if the attachments can be opened directly or must be saved before opening.

From the Exchange management console, go to Organization Configuration, Client Access and locate Outlook Web App Mailbox Policies . From this dialog you can maintain the list of files that OWA users are allowed to open on public computers, with a separate list for private computers. The policy can be applied to specific users or groups, with different policies for different groups

I dont have admin rights, 2010 exchange server
Wayne88Commented:
Only the exchange server administrator can make configuration changes for MS Exchange OWA.  If they configured the policy to block a certain or all attachments in OWA then you will need to consult with the administrator to have this change done.

is  there any other way to see the attachment ??

Have you tried forwarding the email to Hotmail or Gmail?  The attachement may get forwarded as well then you will be able to open/view it.

Other than that, if you use Outlook then you should be able to view the email and download the attachment.
