Unfortunately I can't help with this because when I dealt with tape drives in the past I backed up to disk from RMAN and then  archived to tape so that Oracle is available quickly.
I recall briefly dealing with direct tape backup/restore on a project and you have to specify SBT_TAPE in RMAN. You'll need to know the tape drive details so you get the correct installation files.
Also, read a bit about Oracle MML - Media Management Layer.
I hope this helps a bit more but I'm afraid that's all I can offer right now without going through some old notes which I don't currently have access to.

First install all necessary drivers on the target machine as rolutola said.
Then configure the tape channel similar to this:
CONFIGURE CHANNEL DEVICE TYPE 'SBT_TAPE' PARMS  'ENV=(TDPO_OPTFILE=/usr/tivoli/tsm/client/oracle/bin64/tdpo.opt)';

Open in new window

Good luck!

Thanks in Exadata, it's necessary to check the node NB_ORA_CLIENT running rman backup.
