back up and full system restore for workstations

Reading about "ransom" incidents, recently had a vendor get hit by a ransom attack.  Has me thinking about a simple backup and restore solution that is reliable. I have tried Windows restore and found it works, sometimes. Would prefer to have a solution that will work every time.  What can you suggest?  We run Win7Pro on all machines.

Further, it is important that I not have to install the OS and then all the apps and files. That literally takes one full day, per machine.  I need a solution that "restores" the whole machine, OS, apps and all and where the machine will run exactly as it had before the incident.

So, what application best handles backup and full system restore?

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Try Veeam, they recently came out with backup software for physical machines.  Veeam's virtual disk backup is legendary so I'd imagine the physical machine backup software is pretty good as well.

We take Ghost Backups of machines when they are fully installed and before going into service. We save these backups on a USB hard drive. We can put a machine back in service in the time it takes to restore the backup (about an hour). This has work very well for us. A Ghost license is quite inexpensive.

You need something which has a centralized approach to backup. Means from a single console take backups of all machines and restore the crushed one from a boot CD.
For this you can use Storagecraft Shadow Protect, Symantec BESR, Paragon Protect & Restore, Acronis. You need to have a look on all of them and select one which you find most convenient for you.

Talking about a simple solution, drive snapshot needs to be mentioned: http://www.drivesnapshot.de/en/ just about 350 KB! No installation and can do nearly all the stuff, the "big five" do for big money. Free trial available.
