I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Do you have Adobe Reader installed?  If you do, you might want to re-install it to get the file association back.

You can open Control Panel, Default Programs and check the association for PDF. If not Adobe, then change it to Adobe.
If you do have Adobe Reader already installed, another setting the default program and file association for PDF (or any program) is:

> select open with
> choose default program
> select or browse to the Adobe Reader icon
> check the box "always use the selected program to open this kind of file"
> click OK

This is an easier method that I normally use instead of going through the control panel to set the file association.
