Develop Crystal Report remotely that user can run it on his company network

Client wants me to Develop several Crystal Reports for his company that he will be able to run, refresh and export as pdf file  when he needs.
He has running company network where he has SQL Server database  on  network server.
I am wondering how is the best to do this remotely.
As I am developer and working from remote site (home) what is the best option to do that.
He has installed Cristal Report 2011 on one of his PC on his network(not server version just one user license), I have on my laptop CR 2008.
I assume that connection should go over VPN.
As it is first time for me to do development  from  remote site. My question is should I have VPN access to his PC which has installed Crystal Report on it and create, run and save report  to server folder.
Or I could connect from my laptop to his database on server create report on my laptop and save it to his shared folder on his company network. In that case not sure how data source location will be when he try to run it, will it be different for him and for me when I was creating report from my laptop. In that case should he reconnect data source first then run report??

Can you give me best suggestion how to do this as this is new for me completely?

I personally prefer to remote to a computer in the network where the database is. You can also work on your machine and connect to SQLServer using VPN, but you will need to change the connection when the report is deployed and the report might look very slow during the development. Another problem might be the access to local resources , pictures , printers etc.

Agree with vasto.  EIther way will work.

If you can remote into a machine on the network then and work from it there will be minimal change to the report for other users.

If built on your machine through a vpn connection then the user will have to open the report change the data source location then save the report.
