Racadm powercycle and wait for completion.

I am using the Dell raadm utility to powercycle a server using the command:

racadm -r {server} -u {username} -p {password} -serveraction powercycle

This works fine, but I am running this command from a script which needs to wait for the powercycle to complete - currently I am doing this by pinging the server waiting for it to go offline and then waiting for it to come online again. This works but seems cumbersome! I was hoping there is some way using the racadm or some other (better) way of doing this? From what I can tell the racadm triggers the powercycle and then returns immediatly regardless of success/failure. Anyone dealt with this before and/or got any other ideas?

Without knowing what the server is running or why you're using racadm to restart it...:

Doing a ping is probably your best bet (you might then want to switch to checking for a running service/daemon or accessible port once it starts pinging).

e.g. if racadm tells you that the server is back, do you believe it or something that's actually running in the OS that the server is supposed to be running? What if the server hangs at the POST?
