Operating system not found

Hi:

I have a Windows 7 laptop and after it boots displays "operating system not found. I went to BIOS and cannot select boot from Hard Drive.

Does it mean that the hard drive is damaged?  When I try to use the Assist Utility it cannot recover the system.

Thanks!

Sounds like the hard drive is shot.  If you don't see the hard drive in the BIOS then it's probably gone bad or (highly unlikely but probable) bad laptop sata or ide (older laptop) controller.

Can you see the hard drive (HDD) as one of the storage devices along with CD/DVD?  If not then it confirm my first suspicion.

What kind of laptop is it?
