I've done several SBS 2003 to 2012 R2 Essentials migration but now migration to 2012 R2 Standard, not Essentials. says it works for this migration as well but then says for 2012 R2 Standard to refer to &nbsp;<a href="http://blogs.technet.com/b/sbs/archive/2014/02/17/deploying-windows-server-2012-r2-standard-datacenter-with-windows-server-essentials-experience-role-in-an-existing-active-directory-environment.aspx" rel="ugc">http://blogs.technet.com/b/sbs/archive/2014/02/17/deploying-windows-server-2012-r2-standard-datacenter-with-windows-server-essentials-experience-role-in-an-existing-active-directory-environment.aspx</a><br />
which says to join the 2012 server to the existing 2003 domain and then install the Essentials role. Is this correct? it seems like if I add it to the domain as a member server I won't be able to install AD. I think I need to install the Essentials role and then begin the migration and not join it to the 2003 domain. <br />

Migration SBS 2003 to Server 2012 R2

Windows Server 2012 is the server version of Windows 8 and the successor to Windows Server 2008 R2. Windows Server 2012 is the first version of Windows Server to have no support for Itanium-based computers since Windows NT 4.0. Windows Server 2012, now in its second release (Windows Server 2012 Release 2) includes Foundation, Essentials, Standard and Datacenter, and does not support IA-32 or IA-64 processors.
