after adding files to itune library, how can i add them to the ipod (device->sync is greyed out)

this is older version of ipod (2011)

In 'computer' (Win7), I am able to see the ipod connected as 'portable device'. i want to remove some of the mp3 in it and add a few. it has been a while since i used itunes, and wondering why 'device-> sync is greyed out

Reset your iPod then try again.  If you want to be safe back it up first.

To reset your iPod with a click wheel, follow these steps:
Slide the Hold switch to the locked position and then slide it to unlocked again.
Press and hold the Menu and Center (or Select) buttons together until you see the Apple logo (about six to eight seconds). You might need to repeat this step.

Wayne- thanks. I believe that has helped some now. (before time on ipod was wrong, but it has been corrected). but on itunes, i still don't see the 'devices' section, and if i click on sync, nothing happens. what else may need tweak for devices section to be shown in itune utility. (ipod is connected to pc and online). that way i would like to delete the unneeded mp3 first manually, and then hope to push the new songs that is on the PC.
