Windows 2012 r2 Essentials running as the first and only DC, can I vurtalize?

This is the setup:

1.) one old HP server running Windows 2012 Essentials and serving files. This server is the only DC on DC-A.
2.) New server-1 running Windows 2012 R2 Std. This server is running hyper-v and serving a windows 2008 r2 This is the only DC on DC-B.
a.) The physical machine is a member server on DC-B .

Question: Can I P2V the old HP server on the "New server-1" ? This server is the one I list on number 2.

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Yes, but read up on how to P2V a domain controller. e.g. http://michael.requeny.com/2011/03/07/p2v-domain-controllers-in-depth/

As the old server is the only DC in the domain you won't have any AD Update Sequence Number issues. You could probably just go for it with Disk2VHD, but that's your call. The nice thing with a P2V is that if the VM doesn't work properly you can just switch the physical box back on again. Make sure you note down stuff like network settings as the VM will effectively have a new NIC.

If you've not done a P2V before I have some suggested things to do as part of the process on my blog here: https://rcmtech.wordpress.com/2011/08/26/physical-to-virtual-conversion-suggestions/

Make sure you've got the licence code handy as you'll likely need to re-activate due to the hardware changes that the server sees going from physical hardware to "virtual" hardware. You might have to phone up Microsoft to do this.
