how to change owner name hp 10 tablet

I received an hp 10 tablet for a gift.  The purchaser is not tablet-savy, and did not notice that the store had put her name as the owner of the tablet.  I have done several Google searches, but known have turned up a method that will let me put my name as owner and remove her name.

Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Look here. Is this what you are looking for?  Changing the organization is a non-issue. I am not sure about the name. Make a backup of the registry first.

Thank you, but it appears that only OS on this tablet are Android and a version of Linux.  There does not appear to be Win 8.

Thanks for the clarification. I thought HP only came with Windows.

Backup data you have on the tablet, and recover it. Then you should be able to configure it for your name. How to recover your HP Slate 10 tablet is documented here:

Thank you, Gerwin:
When I went to the page yhou suggested, I found the following, "Performing a System Recovery on Your HP Slate 7 HD or Slate 10 HD Tablet (Android 4.2/Jelly Bean)
This document applies to HP Slate 7 HD or Slate 10 HD tablets with Android 4.2/Jelly Bean operating system.  Performing a system recovery on your HP tablet deletes the Android operating system, and reinstalls it using a microSD memory card. A system recovery does not destroy the data or settings you have saved on the tablet."

Since the owner's name is apparently saved somewhere on the tablet, how will doing a system recovery replace the owner's name?

Correct answer is at http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c04052020

Very effective procedure that solved the problem and worked the first time.

Great :) - Apparently this recovery procedure leaves user settings intact. I would not call this 'System Recovery' but 'System Refresh'.

Good to hear that  you've got things working again ;)
cigtoxdocAuthor Commented:
By following the reset procedure at http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c04052020 you wind up with a totally factory "fresh" system.  I am now listed as "Owner".  In any case, I have gotten as far as getting Firefox downloaded while I was at a location with Wi-Fi.  My home/ office is all hardwired Ethernet from a cable modem and switch, so I need to look at alternatives for communicating with the outside world.

There are HP slate docks available on Amazon for around $15 - may be worth checking your device on the HP site for compatibility and whether those docks have an ethernet connection. Or get a cheap WiFi router ;)
