Deleting Lightroom 5 catalogs

As current Lightroom 5 Catalogs are a mess of various unknown files, can I delete *all* catalogs, not loose original image files and then create new catalogs with specific names [e.g. Smith Family Wedding]. These new catalogs should be available for processing as any other deleted catalog might have been.

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Have you done photo editing within Lightroom? If so, you'll probably want to keep the catalogs! Unless you're saving the edits to the files, all that editing information is stored within the Catalog itself.

If you want to start making specific catalogs for various shoots, then you'd probably be best served by selecting those and then exporting the sets into a new catalog.

Good suggestion, saving the catalogs offline and creating new, seperate catalogs for future projects.

Thanks, glad it helps!

One thing to watch out for with a multiple catalog strategy though, is that then it's hard to build collections across them. For example, if you wanted to quickly access all your 5 Star photos and had everything in a single catalog, you could build a Smart Collection to automatically do that. But with each shoot in a separate catalog, you won't really be able to do that.
